Rapid antigen tests may be claimed using your NDIS funding

As of 24th January 2022, the NDIA announced that NDIS Participants may be able to use the funding in their NDIS plan to claim for rapid antigen tests (RATs) to ensure that they can safely access their supports during the current COVID-19 outbreaks.

Participants may use their Core funding to purchase rapid antigen tests for themselves or their support workers if this will assist in providing safe access to their reasonable and necessary supports. RATs purchased before the announcement may still be claimable provided the other conditions are met.

How can IDEAL help clients claim for Rapid Antigen Tests?

Clients of IDEAL Plan Management can claim for RATs by sending us a tax invoice directly or purchasing a test and then getting reimbursed. If you need to be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses, contact us for a copy of our reimbursement form. Once you’ve completed the form, just return it to us along with a copy of the invoice and/or receipt.

What if you have a Commonwealth concession card?

Many Participants may already have a Commonwealth concession card which provides free access to:

  • up to 10 rapid antigen tests over a 3-month period
  • up to 5 tests per month

These RATs are available through participating community pharmacies at no cost to the cardholder. In these cases, we recommend that Participants obtain tests in this way first so that they can conserve their NDIS funds.
